About Me:
My dream of being a potter began when I received my first toy wheel from my mother and
father at age 8 or 9. The toy wheel never worked, but my dream stayed alive by doing other hobbies
with my artistic mother, and later with my imaginative children; constantly inventing, designing,
conceiving new ideas, and being resourceful in many things. I have engaged in other ceramics over the
years, but always hoped to one day be able to throw pots on a professional wheel.
My life as a potter began when my husband and children completed my dream of having an
honest to goodness potter's wheel by getting me one as a gift in 1999; though my becoming a ceramicist
would be put on hold for several years until my children got a little older. I dabbled with my wheel during that time,
but have earnestly been throwing pots now since 2014. I find pottery extremely
adventurous and exciting! It thrills me to see a lump of clay take on a specific shape as it spins
unwavering on the wheel! I love that it's an ancient art passed down through the ages and each piece is
crafted with human hands. There are so many aspects to clay, each potter has his or her own bent or
technique.
My most cherished things, along with faith, family, home, and tradition, are treasuring coffee
time with my husband, my children's violin/fiddle and guitar music, listening to my family sing hymns
and country songs, cooking from scratch, and my cowboy boots.
The clay I use for my pieces is mostly buff stoneware. Each piece is fired twice, the second time
with glaze to cone 10. I enjoy making irregular and whimsical pieces, along with pieces that are more
traditional. Some of my later work includes unique embellishments and imprints. I also do some hand
building. My pottery is mostly functional, and each piece has a purpose.
You can usually find my youngest boys accompanying me at a show; helping to market my pieces and
engaging in a bit of entrepreneurship of their own.
